Idols Sing the Movies

Published by katyh at 9:00 am under american idol Edit This

Okay, yes, I am a huge fan of American Idol. So here are my thoughts.

Allison Iraheta sang “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith from Armageddon. Bad choice I thought as David Cook, last season’s winner sang this. She did all right with it and Simon thought she was the girl’s only hope to do well the rest of the season.

Anoop Desai is my favorite and has been from the moment of his audition. He sang “Everything I Do (I Do It For You)” by Bryan Adams. I cringed. This song is so cheesy and could have been a disaster for him. But he put a great R&B spin on it and I was wowed. I’m hoping against hope that he stays out of the bottom three this week.

Adam Lambert sang “Born to Be Wild” from Easy Rider. Steppenwolf? Everyone’s favorite karoke song? He sang it well, but parts were screechy. My husband pointed out that he kind of sounded like Axl Rose, and he did.

Matt Giraud announced he was do “Have You Really Ever Loved A Woman” I despaired. This is my FAVORITE Bryan Adams song. And he did not deliver. The beginning was a straight up copycat and the end was too riffy. He’ll probably end up in the bottom three.

Danny “Put the Go in” Gokey (thank you Entertainment Weekly’s Kristin Baldwin) did “Endless Love”. With a HARP onstage. It didn’t help him. Why do the judges keep praising him. He’s not that good. He’s taking over Von Smith’s title as Shouty McShouterson. He had so much potential and is not living up to it.

Kris Allen picked “Falling Slowly” from the indie movie “Once”. I think he did really well, a cut above the usual songs. Randy Jackson didn’t agree. Why does he never get the love from the judges? He’s exactly what they would normally be looking for?

Lil Rounds did herself no favors by doing Bette Midler’s “The Rose”. She another one who hasn’t lived up to her potential. Simon wasn’t holding back in telling her so. If she isn’t in the bottom three, I will be very disappointed. I can see her going bye-bye tonight.
